He invited me to photograph him at The House Of Chung King recording studio on, I think, Varick Street. He was one of the best tellers of indiscreet and funny stories about equally famous people that I’ve ever met, with each story honing in on some small but pointed observation related to the subject’s ego and vanity. I only met him for an hour but it was everything that I wanted it to be. »
